When a state legalizes the use of cannabis, federal law should not outlaw its use within that state. Alaskans have voted to allow the use of cannabis, but federal law still criminalizes its use. As your next U.S. Senator, I will work to harmonize federal and state law.

Rescheduling cannabis from a federal Schedule I to Schedule IV, or creating a special classification for cannabis, is one of my priorities in the United States Senate.

The federal war on cannabis has torn families apart, filled our prisons with nonviolent people, and has contributed to large national and state deficits. At the same time, cannabis has promising medicinal qualities and its use benefits many people.
